Meet the Founder

An experienced building conservator and traditional building surveyor with extensive international, cross-sector experience, Tyler has worked on everything from multi-billion pound developments to humble, neglected dwellings. While she has extensive experience in building conservation, project management, and executive leadership in the private and charitable sector, she’s not afraid of getting her hands dirty on a project.

In autumn 2024, Tyler joined the Engineering and Environment team at the University of Northumbria as a PhD researcher, examining the technical and economic development of innovative bio-based construction materials. Her research examines the opportunities of building lime in wider-scale construction and complements her dedication to the advancement of the use of traditional building materials in a wider, more sustainable, and low-carbon future.

She remains active in the industry and serves in many roles, including, but not limited to:

  • Trustee and Vice-Chair, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB)

  • Trustee and Vice-Chair, Build Environment Forum Scotland

  • Chair, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) in Scotland

  • Convener, Edinburgh Traditional Buildings Forum

  • Host, The Scottish Traditional Building Festival, part of the Festival Fringe

  • Manager, The Building Limes Forum

She also serves as an advocate for traditional building skills and a mentor for women, underrepresented, and young people looking to join the sector.

She holds professional memberships in the IHBC and ICO. Other memberships and affiliations are available upon request.

Why the Æ?

At CODÆH we embrace the different. Different people, different buildings, different solutions, different thoughts. We were quite simply born to be different. We couldn’t possibly have a name that didn’t embody that, now could we?

In case you’re wondering, the Æ is referred to colloquially as the ‘ash’ symbol. It is of Latin origin and is pronounced like the ‘a’ in ‘cat’.

We often are asked what it means. The truth is, our name means a lot and if you care to know the story behind it, just ask. In the meantime, know that words pronounced as coda (‘koh-dah’) traverse countries, languages, cultures, and applications, but hold similar, positive places that represent qualities of friendship, barrier-breaking, and resilience.

Therefore, it is a truly fitting representation of our ethos and our desire to champion new, positive change for the future of all old buildings as well as the people who use, love, or care for old buildings.
